WASHINGTON - The largest crowd to ever attend CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference turned to see a new facility and find out about surprise, new legislation.
CUNA said 4,700 people attended GAC, 600 of whom were first-timers, at the Washington Convention Center after more than 30 years at the Washington Hilton. The four-day event included the usual speeches by Congress, special appearances by the King of NASCAR, Richard Petty, Marie Osmond, remarks from Gen. Colin Powell, and a performance by the band America.
But GAC is primarily about lobbying and legislation, and just one day after being told about the need to get more co-sponsors onto the Credit Union Regulatory Improvement Act (CURIA), the same audience was told of a new bill that appears to be credit unions‚ best bet (see related story, above).
