WASHINGTON - Two congressional friends of credit unions had to cancel their expected presentations at CUNA’s GAC; U.S. Reps. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Charlie Rangel (D-NY).
The reason for Frank’s absence was one near and dear to credit union hearts: as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, he was busy preparing for a hearing on credit union regulation reform.
Though Frank has long been a credit union champion, he has also indicated a desire to bring credit unions under the Community Reinvestment Act.
House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Rangel was unable to speak at GAC as scheduled because he could not get back from New York in time for the event.
