NEW HAVEN, Conn. - A suspect arrested in the January armed robbery at Workers FCU has been tied to the slaying of a local man the week before by DNA collected at the murder scene.

Antwan Byrd, 32, of Hartford, is being charged in connection with the murder of 31-year-old Lavias Phillips the week before the credit union heist.
Byrd has been in custody since Jan. 23, the day he and an accomplice allegedly robbed the credit union.
After Byrd’s arrest, police obtained a DNA sample to test against evidence collected at the murder scene.
