WASHINGTON-Consumers' ability to afford a mortgage down payment is still severely impaired, according to a poll by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.

The NFCC asked identical questions in May 2010 and May 2011, and the results show little change, with both of them revealing that nearly half of the respondents would never be able to save enough money for a down payment on a home, with only 12% indicating they would have no trouble coming up with a 20% down payment.
