Dupaco Community CU’s Bob Hoefer Ends 47 Years Service

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Dupaco Community CU announced this morning that its well-known president and CEO Bob Hoefer is retiring after 47 years with the credit union he built to almost $1 billionm, and will be succeeded by Joe Hearn, the credit union’s chief operating officer.

Hoefer will retire Feb. 12 at the credit union’s annual meeting and continue afterward to serve the credit union as assistant to the president for special projects.

Hoefer joined what was then Dupaco Employees CU in 1964 as a full-time computer programmer. At the time, the credit union served employees of Dubuque Packing Company. Dupaco had one branch location, 4,600 members and $3.4 million in assets. He became president and CEO in 1971 and has grown the credit union to more than $955 million in assets and 63,000 members.

Hearn is a 25-year Dupaco veteran. He joined the credit union as director of marketing in 1986 and became chief operating officer in 2008.
