Employees Thwart CU Heist

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A masked man who apparently intended to rob a USE CU branch fled in frustration Friday after tellers refused to open a locked front door for him.

The would-be robber showed up at the branch with a blue bandana over his face about 10 a.m., according to police.

Due to the man’s appearance, employees at the small office – which has a practice of keeping its doors locked and letting members in for service one at a time – activated a silent alarm and would not let him enter, prompting him to shout angrily and rattle the door briefly before giving up and leaving.

The bandit made his getaway in a Volkswagen Jetta.
