JACKSON, Miss. – A former Jackson police officer yesterday was arrested and charged with last Friday’s armed robbery of $8,000 at Mississippi Public Employees CU.

Lawrence Epps, 46, is a former police union president but was fired from the force in 1999 after testing positive for drug use, according to police.
Employees at the credit union said the robber handed a note to a teller then fled on foot. Police identified Epps as the suspect early on, and have since been searching for him.
Epps was a six-year burglary detective before being fired in 1999 after he tested positive for cocaine use.
