Ex-Cop Charged In CU Heist

KEY WEST, Fla. – Police on Tuesday arrested one of their own, a former officer, for the armed robbery at KEYS FCU earlier that afternoon.

The suspect, Jeffrey Meyers, 48, was arrested at the Flagler Ave. shopping plaza after he was identified from credit union surveillance, even though he had shaved and changed his clothes in the intervening hours.

Meyers, who was an officer with the Key West Police Department in the mid-1990s, is charged with grand theft, robbery and displaying a hoax bomb, all felonies.

Police say he walked into the credit union, indicated he had a weapon, then left with an undisclosed amount of cash.
