Five credit unions made the top 25 lists for the best small and medium companies to work for in the U.S., an annual ranking put together by the Society for Human Resources Management and the great places To Work Institute.
Pacific Service CU, a $1- billion credit union, was No. 2 on the 25 best small companies list for companies with 50 to 250 employees.
On the 25 best medium companies list-those with 251-999 employees-were four credit unions and one other financial services company.
The credit unions were:
* No. 12, Michigan State University FCU, East Lansing, Mich., $1.2 billion assets.
* No. 13, Digital FCU, Marlborough, Mass., $3 billion.
* No. 15, Eastern Financial Florida FCU, Miramar, Fla., $1.9 billion; and
* No. 19, Wescom CU, Pasadena, Calif., $3.3 billion.
Key characteristics of the winners were clear communication; encouragement of employees to share ideas and opinions; generous salaries and benefits; and employee trust in management.
Recipients were selected and ranked by the Great Place to Work Institute, and the Society for Human Resource Management announced the listing last week.
In a release, CUNA pointed out that not a single bank made the rankings.
