BOULDER, Colo.—Widespread flooding that's killed three Coloradans has at least four credit unions closing their offices today, according to their websites.
With additional rainfall forecasted and swollen rivers expected to expand, Boulder Municipal Employees FCU has closed its single office in Boulder; Premier Members FCU has shut down its Longmont location, IBM plant and call center; Boulder Valley CU has its Arapahoe and Louisville offices closed; and all Elevations CU branches and phone contact center are not operating today.
A representative from Premier Members FCU told Credit Union Journal that he believes most CUs that have closed their doors are doing so as a precaution or due to access problems. He was unaware of any damage to credit unions in this town. “Here at our main office in Boulder we are fine. Our roof is leaking a little and our parking lot looked like a lake yesterday, but that has since dried up. But there is more rain expected—we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
Just north of Boulder, the Colorado National Guard is evacuating 2,500 residents of Lyons — a town cut off and isolated by the floodwaters. In South Boulder County, 500 residents in Eldorado Springs were also under evacuation orders.
Emergency alerts to seek higher ground have been issued to 8,000 residents along Boulder Creek. About 4,000 residents along Boulder Canyon face mandatory evacuation.
