MONMOUTH, Maine – Robert Walker, who became treasurer/manager of Monmouth FCU in 1957 and ran the tiny credit union out of his living room, then his basement before going on to a 30-year career at the now $15-million credit union, died last week at 92.

The credit union eventually became too big for a part-time manager, so Walker sold his bottled gas business and devoted his full time to the credit union. He retired after almost 30 years and remained on the board of directors.
In 2002, the credit union built a new office building and dedicated it to Robert and his wife, Jean Walker.
