Former Minnesota credit union CEO dies

Gene Carroll, former president and CEO of Pipefitters Steamfitters Credit Union and longtime industry advocate, has passed away.

Carroll spent 40 years working in the Minnesota credit union industry in various positions, the Minnesota Credit Union Network said on Wednesday.

“The Minnesota Credit Union Network staff and credit unions around the state will remember and honor Gene Carroll as a true leader,” Mark Cummins, president and CEO of the Minnesota Credit Union Network, said in a statement. “His passion and involvement serve as an example to us all. We offer our sincere condolences to his family.”

Carroll served as CEO at Pipefitters Steamfitters CU in Woodbury, Minn., from 1979 to until his retirement in 2007.

Carroll’s tenure on the MnCUN board started in 1973 and ended in 1996, with two of those years spent as chair. He also served on the Minnesota Item Processing Corporation board from 1994 until 2007 while also serving on the Credit Union National Association board from 1986 to 1992.

He also joined both the MnCUN Political Involvement Committee and Minnesota Corporate Credit Union board as a member.

Carroll received the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s outstanding professional of the year award in 2001 in recognition of his efforts in furthering the credit union movement.
