Former NAFCU Chairman Passes

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – David Miller, the longtime president of Bell FCU who was chairman of NAFCU during the nationwide lobby for passage of HR 1151, the landmark 1998 CU Membership Access Act, died last week at 72.

The congenial Miller was an accomplished musician, playing the saxophone and clarinet. He attended school at Interlochen Center for the Arts before being drafted into the Army in 1963 and serving in the 5th Army Band at Fort Knox.

Miller worked for AT&T for 25 years and also worked for the credit union, Bell FCU, where he was the CEO for 43 years until his retirement in 2009.

He was active chairman for six years in the Michigan State Association of CU, and served 12 years on the NAFCU board.
