Foundation activates CUAid for Hurricane Michael relief

The National Credit Union Foundation has activated CUAid to assist credit union professionals affected by Hurricane Michael.

After making landfall in Mexico Beach, Fla. on Wednesday, the Category 4 storm roared through the Southeast before reaching the Carolinas one day later. The deadly hurricane has killed at least five people in its path.

"With Hurricane Michael arriving as the Florida's strongest storm in over 25 years, we are opening CUAid to begin raising funds to assist credit union people in their recovery," Gigi Hyland, executive director of NCUF, said in a statement. "We hope the credit union movement will once again show their support and cooperative spirit in assisting those who have been affected by this natural disaster."

As of Thursday, more than 400,000 Floridians were without power as a result of the storm, and some electric companies were predicting that the hurricane may cause as many as 500,000 additional power outages in the Carolinas.

CUAid donations will be distributed to credit union employees and volunteers affected by Hurricane Michael. Donations can be made here.
