GECU Member Wins $10,000 Savings Prize

EL PASO, Texas – Heather McBride, 25, a young professional physical therapist, recently was named the $10,000 grand prize winner of the GECU Savings Challenge 2010: Back in the Black.

McBride, who at the beginning of the competition was tackling a new mortgage, student loans and other debt, came out on top of the year-long competition.

McBride made a successful turnaround with help from her GECU financial coach, who educated and guided her onto the right financial path. She stated, “The Savings Challenge has really helped me reach my goals. Not only has it made a positive impact in my life, but in my family’s and the other contestants’ lives as well. I am truly honored that my hard work paid off.”

The competition consisted of six participants undertaking a full commitment to become financially educated, lessen their debt, build savings, and maintain a budget. This is the final competition of the GECU Savings Challenge. Since 2007, contestants have collectively saved over $174,000 and reduced their debt by $281,648.
