EL PASO, Texas – GECU is requiring its online banking users to change their online account passwords to meet federal requirements.
New federal regulations require stronger account passwords to provide more protection for online bankers, the credit union reported. Passwords must be changed by July 11.
When members log in to the GECU SmartBranch, they will be prompted to change their password.
New passwords should avoid containing a member or family member name, or pet name, the credit union reported. It should not include Social Security numbers, phone numbers, account numbers or birth dates.
