PITTSBURGH – The man who drove the getaway car in a January 2010 armed robbery at Westmoreland Community FCU, when a teller was shot, was convicted last week on four criminal counts related to the holdup.
Lamont Laprade, 35, was convicted of bank robbery, armed robbery, conspiracy and using a firearm.
The robber who shot the teller, David Mathis, in October was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Mathis, who pistol-whipped another teller during the holdup, said he fired the gun accidentally and was only carrying it to scare the tellers.
Matis was ordered to pay $228,925 to Liberty Mutual for the workers’ compensation the insurer paid to the teller as a result of the shooting.
The two men fled the credit union with $6,878 in a blue bag, which was later recovered from Laprade’s SUV, after the two men abandoned it in a nearby cemetery.
