The Rochester Downtown Development Corp. has put together "Welcome to Downtown" packages for the employees, with information on and coupons for places to eat lunch, along with other services and amenities.

About 120 of the credit union’s 300 employees are scheduled to move into the new digs today, the first of three waves of employee relocations from the $3.6 billion credit union’s offices in nearby Irondequoit.

The headquarters will be unveiled to the public on April 4 to mark the opening of a new branch there.

The six-story, $55 million building is one of two major projects aimed at changing the face of this decaying upstate New York city, with locally based telecommunications provider PAETEC also building a headquarters here.

ESL was chartered in 1920 as Eastman Savings and Loan Association by George Eastman, founder of Eastman Kodak Company. In 1996 it became one of the few S&Ls to convert to a credit union, growing since then into the largest credit union in New York.
