Gold Dealer Guilty Of ‘Structuring’ Cash Deposits Through Wright-Patt CU

DAYTON, Ohio – A precious metals dealer was sentenced to 3 years probation and ordered to pay a fine in the amount of $7,500 for structuring financial transactions at Wright-Patt CU aimed at evading currency transaction reporting requirements.

Prosecutors said Scott Courter, 38, conducted a series of structured bank transactions in between October 2008 and March 2009 in amounts less than $10,000 in an attempt to evade the CTR filing requirements.

Courter began buying and selling gold as an unlicensed precious metals dealer known as United Gold Buyers. He made 39 structured cash withdrawals totaling $307,400.
