Golden 1 Credit Union Scores Naming Rights Deal

The Sacramento Kings’ new arena will become “Golden.”

Golden 1 Credit Union inked a deal with the Sacramento Kings to secure naming rights over the National Basketball Association team’s new entertainment and sports center. The deal represents the first time a credit union has earned naming rights for a major league sports venue.

The 20-year partnership will have the Kings’ arena called the Golden 1 Center. The deal reportedly cost the credit union more than $120 million to secure, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The credit union’s members will also see additional benefits from the partnership, including venue tours, “Fast Pass” service at concession stands, advanced ticket purchases and discounts on merchandise and games.

The new venue, which cost around $477 million to build, will open in the fall of 2016. The Kings’ current venue is named after Sacramento-based mattress company Sleep Train.

With more than $9 billion in assets and 720,000 members in California, Golden 1 is the sixth largest credit union in the country.
