OGDEN, Utah -- Goldenwest Credit Union launched a newly
The completely overhauled site, which went live Tuesday, was built on a responsive design that automatically optimizes the graphics and contact for viewing on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The $1.1 billion credit union was among the first financial institutions in Utah to launch a mobile app in 2009, has seen more than 27% of hits to its website come from a tablet or smartphone during the past two years, and during that time the mobile app significantly outpaced the use of the site.
"As such, it was very important to us and our members to develop a website with responsive design," Diana Windley, the credit union's vice president of marketing and communications, told Credit Union Journal.
The revamped site, which has a redesigned logo, new colors and more photos, features an image of a woman holding a mobile phone when visitors first log onto the home page. In addition to enhanced content, the site has upgraded functionalities, including an improved search feature.
Before the redesign, members using their mobile phones could only access a few key pieces of information, such as branch and ATM locations, rates and contact information, said Keanen Farr, Goldenwest's in-house web developer.
"Now they have access to all of the content on the website including information about our full range of products and services, loan applications, help documentation, and much more," he said. "Every piece of information that was previously only available on for our members using their desktop or laptop computers is now available on every device, every screen size.
Goldenwest reports 2.2 million visits to its website annually, with an average of 190,000 a month. While the credit union didn't provide benchmark numbers for the revamped site, it expects an increased use of its mobile app that allows customers to login with fingerprint authentication, deposit checks and set up Apple Pay.
"We also hope that the updated design will appeal to a broader potential membership base and will result in more members, loans, and overall confidence and satisfaction in Goldenwest's offerings," Windley said.
