Gunman Bound CU Employees, Stole $140,000

CONYERS, Ga. – A man who allegedly bound three employees and one member of Georgia’s Own CU with duct tape and made off with $140,000 was charged yesterday with armed bank robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The suspect, Cepeda Broughton, 40, lead police on a high-speed chase after the March 9 holdup. Several cars were wrecked during the chase.

“We will not allow the streets of our communities to be threatened by bank robbers with guns in high-speed chases,” U.S. Attorney Sally Yates said yesterday after the charges.
