HONOLULU – Ron Ogata, the long-time leader of HawaiiUSA FCU and a 40-year veteran of financial services, died recently.

Ogata served as president of the credit union from 1988-2002, then returned for the past two years to serve on the board. During his tenure he oversaw a doubling of assets to more than $800 million, and a tripling of members to 110,000.
Ogata was a driving force behind shared branching in the islands, was a member of the CUES Hall of Fame, and was active in numerous Hawaiian charities, including serving as the volunteer head golf coach of Mid Pacific Institute, where he guided the team to a state championship.
