GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – Spanish students at Santiago High School will get a big surprise when they return from winter break, a new classroom with new furniture and computers, courtesy of SchoolsFirst FCU.
The Spanish classroom was chosen for the credit union’s $25,000 "Extreme School Makeover," which will renovate the dilapidated portable room that had water damage, holes in the walls, broken desks and a non-working air conditioning.
The class was chosen by the $5 billion credit union formerly called Orange County Teachers FCU, from more than 180 entries throughout Orange County. In September, students and teachers from across the county were encouraged to submit essays describing how a $25,000 makeover would benefit their learning environment.
Crews started renovation of the classroom last week, but much of the work will be done over the long holiday break.
