DENVER, Colo. - The Homes For Our Troops initiative, which builds homes for wounded war veterans with their special needs in mind, celebrated along with credit union supporters the groundbreaking for a home for SSG Travis Strong and his family.
The new home is slated to be completed during or near the Democratic National Convention in August.
Strong, 30, is a double amputee, the result of injuries sustained during a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his Stryker vehicle in November 2006 in Iraq.
At the time of the attack, he was in his second tour of duty in Iraq for the U.S. Army. The home will be specially adapted for SSG Strong, his wife Misty, and their two children. The house is being built at no cost to the Strong family.
