ROLLA, Mo. – One member of Rolla FCU is counting her luck after she inadvertently dropped an envelope containing $500 she had just withdrawn from her account near the credit union’s Missouri University of Science and Technology branch.
The wayward cash envelope with the cash sticking out was spotted by a student at the university and the money was returned to its owner the same day.
University Police honored the finder, Michael Kuba, a graduate student in metallurgical engineering from Kansas City. Kuba was walking with a friend in a parking lot near McNutt Hall, where his department is located, when he noticed the credit union envelope containing the cash. He turned it in to the department secretary, who contacted University Police.
The woman who dropped the envelope contacted police about 10 minutes later. She said she had just withdrawn the money and described the envelope and its contents.
The information was soon verified by credit union officials and the cash returned to the member.
