The $534 million-asset institution now serves 35 counties in southern Indiana and has roughly 29,000 members. The new counties include Brown, Clay, Jennings, Morgan, Ohio, Owen, Ripley, Scott and Switzerland, Hoosier Hills said on Wednesday.

“Anyone who lives, works or has family members who live or work in these areas is eligible to join and do business with us,” George McNichols, president and CEO of Hoosier Hills, said in a statement. “We are excited to grow the credit union into these new areas, and to continue building strong relationships with members throughout southern Indiana.”

J. Mark McWatters, chairman of the National Credit Union Administration, recently urged lawmakers to change the Federal Credit Union Act to allow credit unions to expand their fields of membership to better help underserved communities. The change would only apply to federally chartered credit unions.
