McCants was an IBM employee and served on the board of the credit union when he was hired in 1988 as CEO. He has served on numerous credit unions boards, including CU Service Centers of Florida, and is currently chairman of the CU Executives Society.

The credit union, which has expanded in recent years to serve hundreds of select groups partnering with IBM or technology-related, is the last one of a one-time network of IBM credit unions that even had its own corporate credit union. Among the former IBM employees credit unions are: Coastal FCU in North Carolina, Visions FCU in New York,  Hudson Valley FCU in New York, Meriwest FCU in California, Amplify FCU in Texas, Premier Members FCU in Colorado, and one mutual savings bank that converted from a credit union, Think Bank.

IBM Southeast is conducting a nationwide search for a McCants successor.
