The League, which serves 353 credit unions, has contracted with D. Hilton Associates to conduct the search for its new leader.

Plauda joined the League in 1977 as general counsel and was named president and CEO in 1984. Before going to work for the League he was a partner in a Minneapolis law firm.

Plauda’s retirement follows last week’s announcement that Dan Egan, president of the Massachusetts CU League since 1984, is retiring later this year. The two men are currently among the longest-serving league presidents, following only Joe Bergeron, who has led the Vermont CU League since 1982.

During his time at the League, Plauda also served five years on the board of the CUNA, chairman of the board of the CU Interchange Group, the national ATM network for credit unions; and on CUNA's governmental affairs and audit committees.  He is also a former member of the executive board of the American Association of CUs.
