HOUSTON – Three 19-year-old men were charged with two recent robberies at Investex CU when a total of $330,000 was stolen.
The two heists are believed to have been planned by one of them, Dorcell Johnson, an employee at the credit union.
In the first robbery, a lone gunman, who police believe was working with Johnson, approached Johnson outside the credit union on August 28 and forced Johnson into the credit union, then into the vault room then rifled the vault for $126,750 before escaping.
Then, on November 5, two gunmen, also believed to have been working with Johnson, entered the credit union and disarmed a security guard and forced their way into the vault, where they loaded $202,250 in a sack before fleeing. On their way out of the credit union one of the gunmen fired a shotgun blast into the surveillance monitor to disable the security system.
When police searched Johnson’s apartment they found a safe containing some of the stolen credit union loot. Johnson confessed to staging the two robberies to make it appear he wasn’t involved, then identified his two accomplices.
The accomplices, also charged, are identified as Carl Preston, Jr., and Dominique Ervin.
