DES MOINES, Iowa - (12/23/05) Tom Griffiths, one of thelongest-serving credit union league presidents, announced hisretirement as head of the Iowa CU League. Griffith has worked atthe Iowa league for more than 30 years, the last 21 as presidentand CEO. Over the last 10 years Griffith and the Iowa league havebeen important leaders in the effort to get HR 1151 passed, ingetting the states credit union statute reformed and, mostrecently defeating the Iowa bankers efforts to get thestates credit union taxone of only three in thecountryhiked. His work on the Iowa league culminated,perhaps in the leagues efforts to groom JoAnn Johnson, whois now NCUA Chairman, first by helping her get elected to the Iowalegislature, then nominated to the NCUA board. Griffiths plans toretire June 1, 2006.
