LIHU’E, Hi. – Kaua’i Community FCU broke ground last week on a new administration offices that will be powered by photovoltaic solar panels and use recycled water.
The 21,394-square-foot building will generate an estimated 10% of its electricity through the solar panels. In addition, the green building will use up to 20% recycle water.
The building will reflect old Hawai‘i, with a symmetrical roof and formal entry that will create "a stately, elegant building without being ostentatious," according to the designer.
Estimated cost of the project is $10 million to $20 million.
The $300 million credit union’s administration offices will occupy the second floor of the new building, with the first floor a full-service branch. There will be two drive-through remote tellers and automated teller machine locations on the site.
