Kinecta FCU Works To Nix Area Hunger

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – Kinecta FCU used last year’s purchase of the area’s largest check cashing chain to reach out to the area’s needy for Thanksgiving to provide food and grocery gift cards to 1,200 families.

More than $110,000 was raised for the effort, primarily from customers of Nix Check Cashing, Kinecta members, and local businesses.

Each year, the Nix Check Cashing Community Outreach Foundation partners with local community organizations, community groups, and churches to identify families who will benefit from the food drive. Each family received bags of traditional Thanksgiving meal items: rice, stuffing, vegetables, beans, other donated items, and a $75 gift card to local grocery stores to use toward the purchase of other food items, such as a Thanksgiving turkey. In addition, children received bags of activity books and other fun items.

Kinecta expanded throughout most of Los Angeles County with last year’s $45 million acquisition of Nix and its 53 check cashing outlets. The $4 billion credit union plans to develop the Nix outlets into min-branches.
