Oosterhouse, who is a Lake Michigan CU member, is nationally recognized for hosting several cable television shows about home renovation, design and community outreach. He is the host of a new HGTV show called “Million Dollar Rooms.”

The credit union said its campaign will stretch across multiple media, including television, radio, print, outdoor, point of sale, Internet, social networks and member communications.

“Oosterhouse’s Michigan roots, visibility, personal charm and ability to communicate on an individual level were keys in his selection as spokesperson,” said Don Bratt, director of marketing for the $3-billion credit union. “This new marketing campaign and partnership seeks to solidify our branding image in ways our members can relate to.”

The sweepstakes will run until April 30 with a single drawing to be held May 17. The winner not only will get a $25,000 cash prize, but also advice from Oosterhouse about design ideas and eco-friendly building tips.

The contest can be entered online at lmcu.org, or personally at any Lake Michigan CU branch. Entrants can increase their odds when friends enter the giveaway through a Facebook link.

In addition to his own production company with shows on HGTV, Oosterhouse runs a nonprofit that builds and rehabs playgrounds, makes furniture from fallen Northern Michigan trees, and recently released a new book, “Carter’s Way: A No-Nonsense Method for Designing Your Own Super Stylish Home.”

For his latest endeavor, Oosterhouse and his brother are opening a winery near Traverse City on Old Mission Peninsula. They have about 20 acres planted and just had their first yield of wine grapes.
