DURHAM, N.C. - (09/23/04) -- Latino Community CU will becampaigning to bring credit union membership to unbanked Hispanicsat Latino fiestas through the state during Hispanic Heritage Monthin September. Credit union officials are participating in the GranCaravana del Ahorro Latino--Unete a tu Familia (Grand Caravan forFamily Savings) at Hispanic fiestas in Raleigh, Siler City, Warsawand Brunswick where they will offer free membership in the creditunion and the opportunity for Latinos to obtain an Individual TaxIdentification Number (ITIN). "The Gran Caravan is theCooperativa's mobile branch campaign," said John Herrera, chairmanof the credit union. "It is our way of bringing critical financialservices for our people--savings accounts and tax I.D.numbers--directly to our community." Also participating in themobile campaign are the North Carolina CU League, North CarolinaCatholic Diocese, Episcopal Farm Workers Ministry, and the NorthCarolina Banking Commissioner.
