READING, Penn. – Members and employees of Utilities Employees CU are mourning the death of Fred Heatwole, the former treasurer and managing director (CEO) for 14 years, at 84.

Heatwole, who died Oct.26, worked at the credit union for 39 years before he retired in 1987, growing it from $6 million in assets to $97 million.
He guided the credit union into the computer age, taking its records from bookkeeping machines, on which member account records were maintained on individual cards, to a computerized system residing on a sponsor company’s mainframe network.
