The winner of last week's $250,000 "Big Fat Wallet" state lottery game decided to put her grand prize to good use- she took the check directly to Gateway Credit Union and paid off the outstanding balances on two auto loans at the credit union.
Sara Richmond, a 32-year-old emergency medical technician, said she will use some of the rest of the $170,000 after-tax winnings to fulfill a life-long dream and attend medical school in Biddeford, Me., where she will move with her husband.
Richmond and her co-worker were driving in the ambulance down the road on the night of Nov. 8, when she noticed the winning number and had him screech to a halt in the middle of the street to verify her good luck.
"We stopped right in the middle of the road you had to because you couldn't believe it," said Doug Fader, who told Richmond her eyes weren't deceiving her.
