Magill To Leave CUNA

WASHINGTON — John Magill, CUNA executive vice president for government affairs and special assistant to the president, will leave the trade association September 5.

In his role, Magill provided strategic counsel on legislative and political issues while overseeing the day-to-day operations of key advocacy areas.

"John Magill has been a significant leader in CUNA's advocacy team for almost nine years, and we wish him well," said CUNA interim president and CEO Bill Hampel. "He will be sorely missed."

Magill noted that his time at CUNA has been a fulfilling, rewarding experience and an important part of his life.

"I'll treasure many of the friendships made along the way and look forward to my next challenge in our nation's capital, where so many of us are fortunate to work and call home," Magill said.

Magill also handled a number of administrative and other related matters the daily operations of the CUNA Washington office. Magill joined CUNA in May 2006 as senior vice president of legislative affairs after a 30-year career on Capitol Hill.

In an e-mail to CUNA colleagues, Magill shared that his next steps have not been finalized. "But you can expect that I won't be going very far," he wrote.

Magill also noted that he expected a new CUNA president and CEO will be named in the next few weeks.
