HINGHAM, Mass. – A former manager at the Hingham FCU likely will avoid jail time after admitting to stealing more than $100,000 from the credit union.
Joanne Taylor, a longtime employee, pleaded guilty to two counts of larceny of more than $250 in state court last week. Prosecutors asked that Taylor serve at least a year in jail, but Judge Carol Ball handed down a suspended two-year sentence.
Taylor also was ordered to pay $35,000 as restitution, which represents the amount of stolen money not covered by insurance.
She started working part time at the credit union in 1999 and had become manager by the time she left in June 2010. Prosecutors said Taylor used her authority as manager to remove money from member accounts and replace it later with credit union funds.
