Manager Jailed For Looting Tiny CU

CARLETON, Mich. – The manager of St. Patrick FCU was sentenced to 270 days in jail and ordered to pay restitution for a $320,000 embezzlement that forced the tiny, 60-year-old credit union into a merger with nearby Monroe County Community CU.

Krista Cousino, 35, pleaded guilty to an embezzlement charge in December.

Prosecutors said Cousino would buy CDs for her credit union, but would purchase the certificates in amounts that were less than what she claimed and keep the difference.

The $2-million, church-based credit union had 700 members.
