Officers reported the robbery at 3:31 p.m. when a member and employee called 911. Witnesses said a man wearing a mask entered the credit union and fired a single shot from a handgun, then grabbed an employee and demanded money.

He left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in a red vehicle. A person followed the car and reported by telephone where the car was going until police saw the vehicle.

Police said the man then drove westbound on I-94 at speeds over 100 miles per hour and involved officers from Battle Creek, Emmett Township, Michigan State Police, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Department and the Kalamazoo city police. Officers laid out spikes to puncture the tires on the car.

The chase ended when the man crashed and tried to flee on foot. Police captured the man and he was taken to the Calhoun County jail. The money and a handgun were recovered.

No injuries were reported.
