Members 1st FCU Won’t Let Legal Setback Hold It Down

MECHANICSBURG, Penn. – Members 1^st FCU, whose vast community charter was overturned by a federal court last summer, opened its 33^rd branch Monday in Carlisle, despite the legal setback that set its field of membership back to an employee-based charter.

The fast growing $1.5 billion credit union, which opened another branch in York in October, is planning to open another branch next week in nearby Hanover.

The federal court ruled overturned a broad five-county community charter covering more than 1.2 million residents awarded Members 1^st FCU by NCUA, forcing the credit union to revert to an FOM serving more than 1,000 select groups. The court ruling also wiped out similar charters granted two other local credit unions, AmeriChoice FCU and New Cumberland FCU.
