TALLAHASSEE, Fla.– Patrick LaPine, the well-known chief lobbyist of the Michigan CU League who helped build the credit union lobby into a power in both Lansing and in Congress, was named yesterday to head the fledgling League of Southeastern CUs.

The state trade association was formed recently by the merger of the Alabama and Florida credit union leagues which included the retirement of the long-time heads of both leagues, Gary Wolters in Alabama and Guy Hood in Floirda.
LaPine joined the league in 1999 after four years as a legislative assistant in the Michigan legislature and a term working for former U.S. Sen. Don Riegle, and has developed Michigan’s congressional delegation into one the strongest pro-credit union groups.
