The gift is the second $1 million charitable donation made by the credit union this year, following January’s $1 million pledge to the MSU College of Music to establish a jazz artist-in-residence program is recognition of Martin Luther king Day.

This morning's gift will bring renowned artists to MSU’s campus to provide engagement opportunities for MSU students and faculty, school children throughout Mid-Michigan, and the general public.

“At MSUFCU, we are committed to making a positive impact on as many people’s lives as possible and investing in our community to help create a place where people are proud to live, work, and visit,” said Patrick McPharlin, president of the $2.3 billion credit union.

The MSU Federal Credit Union Artist Studio Series Endowment, he added, will “help ensure Mid-Michigan is a place full of vibrant arts and entertainment.”

The College of Music residency program will bring established musicians such as Branford Marsalis, as well as rising figures in the jazz world to East Lansing for a week at a time. They'll work with students and perform. The school says the guest artists and its own jazz groups also will perform around Michigan, with special focus on Detroit.
