The National Credit Union Administration has approved a charter expansion for Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union in Kingston, N.Y.
The $1.1 billion-asset said Thursday that its community charter was expanded so that it now serves those who live, work, worship or attend school in seven counties. It previously just served Ulster, Dutchess and Orange counties but has now added Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Sullivan counties to its field of membership.

“We’ve embraced the credit union philosophy of people helping people for 56 years,” Wayne Winkler, president and CEO, said in a press release. “Now we have the chance to support an even greater number of local communities.”
The expansion is the credit union’s next step within its journey, Winkler added.
The credit union was founded in 1963 and was previously named IBM Kingston Employees FCU. It currently serves more than 79,000 members and has 13 branches.
“The opportunity to offer the financial guidance, low cost products and valuable services that people need to more residents of the Hudson Valley is incredibly exciting,” Winkler said.
