MidAtlantic FCU’s Charlie Thomas Bows Out After 32 Years

GERMANTOWN, Md. – MidAtlantic FCU, a former IBM credit union, said Charles Thomas, its president and CEO for the past 32 years, retired at year end and was succeeded by Rick Wieczorek.

Thomas built the credit union, which originally served employees of IBM in the Washington, D.C., area, from just $4 million in assets, to more than $200 million in assets and 22,000 members.

Thomas was the founding chairman of the multi-credit union owned CU Auto Lending Network, the long-time president of the Alliance of CUs (formerly the League of IBM Credit Unions), and currently is on the board of NAFCU.

Wieczorek is a vice president at MidAtlantic  and is the son of the former president of the D.C. CU League.
