BARTOW, Fla. -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is warning the public that devices known as skimmers have been found recently on MidFlorida CU ATMs in Bartow and Haines City, as well as several Publix ATMs.
Skimmers are outside devices secretly attached to an ATM that records data on a card, which scammers use to reproduce the cards.
Law enforcement agencies are working with MidFlorida CU and Publix to determine the origin of the skimmers and whether any accounts have been compromised.
