ATLANTA-New research from SYNERGISTICS Research Corp. has found that more than eight-in-10 Internet households also use mobile phones or devices.
The study, titled entitled, "Mobile Payments: Consumer Viewpoint," also revealed that one-quarter of Internet households have performed some type of mobile payment, including mobile bill payment, mobile e-commerce, mobile contactless payments, and mobile P2P payments.
The survey found that experience with mobile payments is most widespread among consumers ages 18 to 34.
"Mobile payments may very well be one of most dynamic areas of growth and expansion for the foreseeable future," said COO Genie Driskell.
"Historically other technological innovations in financial channel and account access methods-such as ATMs, debit cards, and online banking and bill payment-generally met with lukewarm response from consumers on a conceptual level, but continued to expand in usage year after year until reaching a degree of wide market maturity. A similar pattern for mobile payments would not be unexpected. Current usage of mobile payments among Internet households, at one-fourth, is impressive, and our findings seem to suggest that the channel may be leaving the early adopter stage and entering the point at which a business case for the service can be made. With mobile payments there are multiple services that can be promoted beyond just bill payment. Furthermore, the degree of usage and receptivity among younger consumers in the market is very promising."
