WASHINGTON Average fixed mortgage rates in the U.S. were flat in the latest week, even as mortgage applications continued to slide amid the rising rates of the past few months.
The average for the 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage was 4.57% this week, unchanged from last week; while the average for the 15-year loan also was unchanged at 3.59%, according to Freddie Mac.
That compares to an average of 3.55% for the 30-year loan and of 2.85% for the 15-year mortgage a year ago.
ARM rates dipped this week, with the average for the five-year ARM declining to 3.22% from 3.28%; and the average for the one-year ARM falling to 2.67% from 2.71%.
