AUGUSTA, Maine – A bill that would have allowed state and municipal agencies to deposit funds in credit unions, as well as banks and thrifts, died Friday with the adjournment of the state legislature.
The bill had been introduced by the state treasurer and had been opposed by the powerful bank and thrift lobby.
Officials with the Maine CU League, which lobbied for the bill, said they were undecided whether to work for its reintroduction next year.
The bank was determined, by multiple industry rankings and experts, to be the best mobile banking provider in the U.S.. Bank of America took second place.
